The Impartiality Committee (IC) was established for safeguarding the independence of the certification process of the National Certification Unit as required by ISO/IEC 17065. The IC is necessary to ensure that NCU’s Impartiality Policy is fully implemented and adhered to. The ultimate objective of the IC is to ensure that the National Certification Unit operates efficiently, and that its activities are conducted with the highest level of impartiality and objectivity.
The roles and responsibilities of the NCU impartiality committee are as follows:
- To assist with the development of policies relating to the operation of the Ccertification body
- To assist with the supervision of the implementation of the policies and procedures
- To provide recommendations on NCU policy issues to the Director
- To ensure that the NCU’s impartiality policy is fully implemented and adhere to
- To provide advice on matters affecting confidence in certification, including openness and public perception
- To occasional review the NCU Management system, including policies, regulations and decisions related to certification
- To provide technical and general advice as and when required, by the National Standards Council, in matters relating to the certification Schemes
- Act as an Appellate Body and to nominate members with appropriate qualification to constitute an Appeals Panel, as and when an appeal is lodged against any decision of the NCD, in respect of the certification scheme/services
